Kehinde Wiley creates giant Renaissance masterpieces with a modern twist

Kehindewileyblog3

Rendered in a realistic mode –– while making references to specific old master paintings –– Wiley creates a fusion of period styles, ranging from French rococo, Islamic architecture and West African textile design to contemporary hip–hop culture.

These paintings are HUGE...I had the pleasure of seeing a small show at the Portland Museum and was shocked by the grand scale of his work...truly something that must be seen in person in truly appreciate.

Tuesday Trio: Parra, Jim Houser & Yumiko

Parra - a Dutch graphic designer, illustrator, artist, art director, and clothing company owner - he's got a unique style (and twisted humor) that I enjoy. Check out this collabo with Nike and his Rockwell clothing company.
Jim Houser - interesting pieces with a nice, folk art style - go on a tour of his studio
Yumiko
- online, her work looks computer generated - it's not.  I've seen a few of her shows (at the Shooting Gallery in SF and Roq La Rue here in Seattle) and her precise illustrative painting technique is quite impressive.
